The Tail Continues

Well. Last week, we thought Midas' tail was getting better. Really, it was. BUT. Friday, when I got home, he had chewed off his wrap. (It has been wrapped up with duct tape.) When I got home and saw this, I let it go. I was going to see my family in Memphis and couldn't be more thrilled! I got the dogs packed up and all my stuff thrown in to the truck and scooted on out of town. Well, he proceeded to chew on his tail the entire way there. I, of course, had no clue because I was driving. When we got there, he ran into the garage excited to see his brother and sisters and mommy and daddy and Memommy and Pepoppy (my mom and dad haha). He popped his tail on the wall in the garage and that was the end of it. Blood went all over my mom's freshly painted kitchen. It was awful. We cleaned the tail (and her kitchen) and I saw what I THOUGHT was his spine. Their little tails are actually a continuation of their spine and just covered in a small amount of skin, cartilage, and ligaments. It doesn't take much time to chew down to it. Anyway. We wrapped it up and I bought this lovely cone at Petco to keep him from chewing it. We went to the vet this morning and she said that we may have to amputate the end of his tail. Which is so lovely. If we do, I think we will have him neutered at the same time so that we only pay for and he is only under one round of anesthesia. Anyhoo, as awful as I feel for him, he is so pitiful in his cone, and I had to share with you.

Isn't he gorgeous? He's my sweet little buddy and I love him so. PLEASE say a prayer that this angel pie doesn't have to have the tip of his tail cut off.

  1. Poor Midas! I love that your parents already have grandparents' names. I also love that you can totally see midas' stream of pee in that 2nd picture. He is going to be so embarassed of that picture one day! Haha

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about Midas! I hope that his tail heals up well on its own and that he won't need surgery.

  3. So sorry about Midas...hopefully he won't need the surgery!! Keep us posted. Missed seeing you this morning at Beth Moore, hope you're doing well.
